Canyon X Notes
Is Antelope Canyon X Worth It?
What Canyon X is, how it compares with Upper and Lower, and who should pick it.
Antelope Canyon X is a slot canyon on Navajo land near Page, a few miles from Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon. Its name comes from its shape: two narrow passages cross each other, and from the right spot the walls form an X. It has the same sculpted Navajo Sandstone as the famous two, with far fewer people in each photo, which is the main reason to choose it.
Is it worth it?
For most people who want a slot canyon without the crowds, yes. The tour on this page has 4.7 out of 5 from more than 4,500 reviews, and recent reviewers mostly mention the same two things: the calm pace and the light. On a sunny day around midday you can see shafts of light like Upper’s, and the canyon is deeper than the other two in places. (Ratings checked in October 2026.)

It is less of a fit if you have your heart set on the specific views from Upper and Lower that you have seen in photos, or if walking downhill on sand and back up is hard for you. The tour requires guests to walk unassisted on uneven ground with steep inclines.

What Canyon X Visitors Say
"Garrett was great guide. He was knowledgeable and very helpful when it came to getting the best pictures."
"We had Brian as our guide, and it was just great! You can easily park right at the meeting point. From there, you are driven to the entrance by car. Brian was always mindful of making sure everyone could keep up at their own pace. He even took photos of everyone without being asked. Since he knew exactly how to take the photos, they turned out super nice as a result. We can wholeheartedly recommend the tour!"
"Everything went perfectly. Clearly specified meeting point and straightforward directions. Both the driver and the guide were friendly and knowledgeable. They shared interesting anecdotes with us and showed us the best spots in Canyon X, which is truly a gem. Highly recommended!!"
"The canyon was awesome. Garrett was an awesome guide. He showed us how the sandstone rocks were formed many years ago. The walk back up was steep. There was stairs but that didn't take the steepness away it just got you out of the sand."
"the guy, jessica, was friendly well informed and communicated very clearly"
"It was incredibly beautiful. We visited the North and South Canyons. Our guide, Jameson, was great. He also took great pictures of all of us. I can only recommend it."
"We had an amazing experience touring Antelope Canyon X! Our tour guide, Josh, was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the canyon and shared so many interesting facts along the way. He made the entire experience both educational and fun, turning it into an unforgettable adventure! We really appreciated his enthusiasm and how well he explained everything. Highly recommend this tour, especially if you get Josh as your guide!"

Antelope Canyon X: Questions Before You Book
Answers checked in October 2026.
Antelope Canyon X is a slot canyon on Navajo Nation land near Page, Arizona, a few miles from Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon. It is named after its shape: two narrow passages cross, and from inside the walls form an X. It is carved from the same Navajo Sandstone as the famous two canyons and can only be visited on a guided tour.
Yes, especially if you want a slot canyon without the crowds of Upper and Lower. The tour on this page is rated 4.7 out of 5 from more than 4,500 reviews (October 2026), and reviewers often mention the calmer pace. It is less of a fit if you specifically want the views from Upper or Lower that you have seen in photos.
Lower is the famous one, with stairways down into a narrow, twisting slot; it is busier. Canyon X is usually quieter, deeper in places, and on sunny days around midday it gets light beams like Upper. If this is your only slot canyon and you want the classic views, pick Lower; if crowds would spoil it for you, pick Canyon X.
About one hour. You walk down a sandy slope into the canyon with your Navajo guide, through the X, and back up again. Allow extra time to drive from Page to the departure area, which is not included.
Around midday on a sunny day gives the best chance of light beams, from roughly spring to early autumn. Earlier and later tours have softer, even light and cooler temperatures. In the summer monsoon season, from mid-June to the end of September, storms can cancel tours at short notice.
The Navajo Nation does not issue photography or filming permits for Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon because of the number of visitors, and operators ban filming, tripods and similar gear so groups keep moving safely through narrow passages. Ordinary photos with a phone or a handheld camera are fine on regular tours.
Yes, on a guided tour. Flash floods are the real risk, and guides watch the weather and cancel or pause tours when storms threaten, even storms far upstream. In 1997 a flash flood in Lower Antelope Canyon killed eleven hikers, which is why entry is guided only. Check the forecast and your booking messages on the day.
Yes. The Navajo Nation park fee of $15 per person is included in this Canyon X tour. Guide tips are not; the operator suggests $2 to $5 per person.
